To aid navigation around our website we have provided some guidelines for you. If you experience any problems with our website please let us know. Before we can give you instructions we need to know which browser you are using, please select your browser from the following list:




Microsoft Internet Explorer

Changing Text Size

Follow these steps to increase or decrease the size of the text on this site.

(NOTE: If you do not use a mouse, once you reach the window you require you can use the tab key to navigate to the selection box/button you require, each time you make a selection with the tab you will see an outline around your selection).

  • Open the View menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+V.
  • Select the Text Size option with the mouse or by pressing T.
  • Choose the text size you would like with your mouse or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing Enter.

The text on our website should now have changed to reflect your choice.

To permanently change the size of the text on all pages that you visit please follow the next set of instructions:

  • Open the Tools menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+T.
  • Select the Internet Options option with the mouse or by pressing O.
  • Select the Accessibility button with the mouse or by pressing Alt+E.
  • Check the "Ignore font sizes specified on web page" checkbox with the mouse or by pressing alt+Z.
  • Select the OK button twice with the mouse or by pressing Enter twice.

Text Styles

If you wish to change the style of our site to make it easier for you to view, you can complete the following set of instructions:

  • Open the Tools menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+T.
  • Select the Internet Options option with the mouse or by pressing O.
  • Select the Accessibility button with the mouse or by pressing Alt+E.
  • Check the "Ignore font styles specified on web page" checkbox with the mouse or by pressing alt+S.
  • Select the OK button with the mouse or by pressing Enter.
  • Select the "Fonts" button with the mouse or by pressing Alt+N.
  • Select a web page font of your choice with the mouse or by pressing Alt+W and arrowing through the list.
  • Select the OK button twice with the mouse or by pressing Enter twice.

Text & Background Colours

  • Open the Tools menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+T.
  • Select the Internet Options option with the mouse or by pressing O.
  • Select the Colors button with the mouse or by pressing Alt+O
  • Choose to have your Windows colour scheme reflected by selecting the "Use Windows color scheme" option with the mouse or by pressing Alt+W

Alternatively at this point you can also...

  • Select either the Text button with the mouse (or by pressing Alt+T), select your preferred text colour and then select the OK button twice with the mouse or by pressing Enter twice, OR
  • Select the Background button with the mouse (or by pressing Alt+B), select the colour of your choice with the mouse or by using the arrow keys and then select the OK button twice with the mouse or by pressing Enter twice.

Changing Text Size

Follow these steps to increase or decrease the size of text on this site.

  • Open the View menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+V.
  • Select the Text Size option with the mouse or by pressing X.
  • You can then choose to Increase (Ctrl++) or Decrease (Ctrl+-) the text size on the page.

Text & Background Colours

By following the next set of instructions the changes you make will be made to any sites that you view. These changes will be considered permanent.

  • on Tools Menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+T
  • Select Options with the mouse of by pressing O
  • Using mouse or the Tab key, Select General
  • Select Fonts & Colours with the mouse or by pressing Alt+F

The window that you now see, will contain fields where you can alter, the Font, Font Size & Font Colour. It also has sections for you to alter the Text and Background colours and the Colours of the Links that are displayed to take you to other web pages.

Once you have made the changes you wish to make you can make them permanent by checking the two boxes at the very bottom left hand side of the page, clicking in them or pressing SPACE, then click OK or select Enter.

Mozilla Firefox

To change the settings on your browser go to the Tools menu, and click on Options. From here you can make the following changes:

Changing the Font

  • on Tools Menu click on options
  • At the bottom of this panel is Fonts & Colours
  • change the font face and font size
  • to apply these changes click OK

Displaying text larger or smaller

  • on the View menu, click Text Size
  • select the font size you would like

Changing the colour of the text and the background

  • on Tools Menu click on options
  • at the bottom of this window, click on the colors button
  • under Text and Background select text colour
  • under Background select colour for background
  • select Background, and choose a colour
  • click OK

To close images on web pages

  • click on Tools
  • click Options
  • select Content
  • remove the tick from the box marked Load images
  • click OK

Opera

Opera is a free web browser with some useful accessibility features. For more information or to download please visit www.opera.com.

Many users prefer or need to use the keyboard instead of the mouse. Opera has a list of keyboard shortcuts which can be accessed by selecting the Help menu and then Keyboard option (or press Alt+B). Alternatively, you can click the following link www.opera.com - No Mouse.

Changing Text & Images

Opera can increase the size of images as well as text. You can quickly increase or decrease the size of both text and graphics using the numberpad + and - keys. Each press will increase or decrease the size by 10%. However, these changes will not be remembered next time you open Opera.

Follow these steps to increase or decrease the size of the text permanently:

  • Open the File menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+F.
  • Select the Preferences option with the mouse or by pressing R.
  • Select "Page Style" from the list with the mouse or by using the down arrow key.
  • Select the "Default Zoom" of your choice with the mouse or by pressing Z and using the up and down arrows.
  • Select the OK button with the mouse or by pressing Enter.

Text Styles

  • Select from the subsequent dialog box the text style of your choosing with the mouse or by using Tab and the arrow keys
  • Select the OK button twice with the mouse or by pressing Enter twice.

Text & Background Colours

Some people with a visual impairments may prefer white text on a black background. In order to change the colours on our site, please follow these steps:

  • Ensure the "My fonts and colours" option is selected.
  • Open the File menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt+F.
  • Select the Preferences option with the mouse or by pressing R.
  • Select "Fonts and Colours" from the list with the mouse or by using the down arrow key.
  • Select the type of text you want to redefine (i.e."Normal") from the list with the mouse or by pressing Tab and using the up and down arrow keys.
  • Select the first Choose button with the mouse by pressing Tab and then Enter.
  • Select from the next dialog box the text colour of your choice with the mouse or by using Tab and the arrow keys.
  • Select the OK button with the mouse or by pressing Enter.
  • Select the second Choose button with the mouse or by pressing Tab and Enter.
  • From the next dialog box select the background colour of your choice with the mouse or by using Tab and the arrow keys.
  • Select the OK button twice with the mouse or by pressing Enter twice.
